Activities in the Beneficiary Countries

The effectiveness of this initiative at regional level is determined in significant measure by the extent to which it is successful in catalysing sustainable ISWM actions at national and sub-national levels. The support that is provided to national level actions –and the effectiveness of such support – is therefore critical to the success of the project.

Eight national activities are being implemented in the eight beneficiary countries. The subjects of these activities “or studies” have been identified by countries themselves and discussed during the project inception mission. These activities are under implementation by local and international consultancy firms with the close assistance and support of the Regional Management Group and the International Consortium.

In evidence these activities could not tackle the whole country needs, thus the project team has initiated responding to specific needs and requests for assistance through local consultancies. Many requests for assistance have been expressed by the beneficiary countries and most of them have been considered.
